5 Things To Know If You Want to Buy, Sell, or Trade your Car

Do you have an old car sitting in your driveway? Has it gotten you through years of ups and downs? Maybe you have some great memories with your old car? Sure, it may be hard to get rid of it. But if it’s time to sell your old Mustang Sally, you’ll be better off for getting the unsafe, unsightly vehicle off the road. We’ve come up with some of the top determinations to help you decide if it’s time to finally sell your junk car:

1) Is it drivable?

If it isn’t even drivable, there’s no point in keeping it. If you have been planning a weekend project of fixing up the car for more than a year, then maybe it’s time to admit that you just aren’t going to get around to it. Why take up valuable space in your garage when you can have the rusty old heap towed away for free and walk away with fast cash at the end of the day?

2) Is it too expensive to repair?

If your vehicle is past the point of repair, or it is simply too expensive to repair it anymore, then it’s time to cash it in. Find the blue book value of your vehicle. If the repair is more expensive than what your car is worth, or if the repair is more expensive than one year’s worth of car payments, then it is not worth keeping anymore.

3) What condition is it in?

Do you feel embarrassed by its physical condition? When your vehicle is unsafe on the road, you should never drive it. If it is just dinged and banged up badly, you might feel embarrassed driving it around or leaving it in your driveway to decrease the value of your home. Either way, it’s time to part with it.

4) Does it make sense to keep it?

For instance, if harsh winter weather is making it difficult for you to drive your old jalopy, then don’t risk the icy streets anymore. If it just doesn’t make sense to keep your vehicle for more than a year, why not enjoy the money (and free tow) now?

5) Do you really need it anyways?

If you don’t use your old vehicle much, or are planning on investing in a new vehicle anyways, then why not sell your old, unused vehicle and use the proceeds to buy a new vehicle? Your old car will be put to good use and you may even be able to save someone else money on used parts from your unwanted car.
